The BC Nurses' Union represents about 26,000 nurses and allied health care workers. Included are Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Licensed Graduate Nurses, Undergraduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and health care support staff.

BCNU's affiliations include: Canadian Federation of Nurses' Unions, the BC Federation of Labour and to the Canadian Labour Congress.

Structure of BCNU
  • The structure and rules of BCNU are set out in its Constitution and bylaws
  • The union is divided into 16 regions
  • Members in each region elect a regional chair or two co-chairs, and other members of their regional executives
  • All members across the province elect the BCNU executive committee, consisting of the president, vice-president, treasurer, and two executive councilors.
  • The regional chairs and co-chairs, and the members of the provincial executive make up the BCNU Council.
  • The Council is the top governing body of BCNU between the union's annual conventions.
  • Members from each region elect delegates to Convention.
  • Convention delegates establish key policy directions, debate reports from Council and senior staff, and debate changes to the constitution and bylaws.
