The structure and rules of BCNU are set out in its
Constitution and Bylaws
.
Provincial Executive Committee
Every two years every BCNU member has the opportunity to vote to elect our provincial leaders - the president, vice-president, treasurer and two executive councillors. They make up the provincial executive committee.
BCNU Council
The five members of the provincial executive committee plus 20 regional representatives (regional chairs and co-chairs) make up the 25 member BCNU Council. The four regions with the largest membership send two co-chairs to Council.
Regional Executives
BCNU is divided into
16 regions. Each of BCNU's regions has its own regional executive. Members elect their regional executives, including their regional chairs at open membership meetings or by ballot every two years.
Regional executives consist of five to ten positions, usually including a secretary, treasurer, and members responsible for areas such as occupational health and safety, communications, education, lobbying.
Governing BCNU
The Council is the top governing body of BCNU between the union's annual conventions.
Members from each region elect delegates to Convention based on population. Convention delegates establish key policy directions, debate reports from Council and seniors staff and debate changes to the constitution and bylaws.
