BCNU and HEU members at Hollyburn Houae ratified a new collective agreement on November 30/06 that gives all members of BCNU and HEU a 6 per cent general wage increase over three years and retention/recruitment adjustments for Registered Nurses and Care Aides.

With the adjustmens, senior RNs will receive a wage increase of 14.5 per cent over the three year agreement which will see them reach parity with their colleagues in the hospitals under the Provincial Collective Agreement by July, 2009.

The remainder of the RNs, who are at steps 4 and 5 of the increment scale will receive 10.5 per cent and 11 per cent respectively over the same period with further increases as they move up the increment scale in future years.

Care Aides, who are currently being paid below industry standard rates, will receive an adjustment of an extra two per cent effective December 1, 2006.

Further monetary gains include modest increases to the Night Shift and Weekend premiums and Uniform allowance. There is also a new provision for up to 3 days paid education leave over the life of the agreement and a 50/50 cost share of tuition, registration fees and course-required books, as well as new training opportunities for members for jobs identified by the employer as vacancies

BCNU members voted 100 per cent for the agreement while the margin among HEU members was 87 per cent, for an overall ratification vote of 89 per cent.
