Tsartlip Nation Health Centre
After three days of bargaining, BCNU has signed a renewal collective agreement with Tsartlip First Nation of Brentwood Bay, Vancouver Island, BC. The agreement will be in effect from January 1, 2008 to March 31, 2010.
The parties bargained with a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect resulting in a good contract for BCNU members while focusing on enhancing the health services provided to the Tsartlip First Nation Community.
The bargaining team was successful in negotiating the following gains:
- Brighter Futures Coordinators and Assistants, Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Community Health Representatives and Receptionists will receive a 1.5% increase retroactive to January 1, 2008. This reflects the 1.5% funding increase the community received from Health Canada this fiscal year.
- The 2009 increase will be a minimum increase of 2% effective March 31, 2009. Should the Tsartlip Nation receive additional funding from Health Canada, the 2009 increase may be adjusted higher.
- Increased paid family responsibility leave.
- Increased mileage allowance to $.50/km when members use their own motor vehicle on band business.
- Coverage for 3rd party liability insurance increases up to five million dollars.
A new Health Manager, and a new experienced Administrator led negotiations for the employer. Their solution oriented approach was a welcome presence at the bargaining table and gave BCNU members confidence that the relationship will continue to improve in the future. That productive relationship will positively impact the delivery of health services for the Tsartlip First Nation Community.
