Sick Leave, Long Term Disability, Workers Compensation
BCNU negotiates sick leave benefits and long term disability benefits in collective agreements for members who are unable to work because of illness or injury. Alternatively, you may be eligible for Workers Compensation.

EI Disability Benefits
If you have insufficient entitlement to sick leave benefits for the period necessary for your recovery, you may be eligible for Employment Insurance medical disability benefits.

WCB Benefits
If you become ill or are injured as a result of your work, you may be eligible for Workers Compensation benefits.

If your WCB claim is denied, you must file a WCB appeal through BCNU. Contact a BCNU WCB appeals Labour Relations Officer .

Long term disability
If you expect to be off work for a lengthy period, you should apply for long term disability as soon as possible. While on LTD, you may also be entitled to Canada Pension Plan disability benefits. If you are denied LTD you can appeal the decision.
