Workplace violence is the third leading cause of injury to nurses. Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) statistics show that between 1999 and 2003 there were 566 Registered Nurses who suffered injuries due to violence or acts of force that disabled them from work. The average period of disability due to these injuries was 59.5 days. Workplace violence must no longer be part of the job.

The 2006 Provincial Collective Agreement includes major initiatives to reduce and eliminate violence in the workplace and in the community.
