BCNU members elect two new executive councillors
Marg Dhillon and Len Rose elected as executive councillors
during 25-day televote, which was open to all BCNU members
BCNU members have elected Len Rose as Executive Councillor (Pensions) and Marg Dhillon as Executive Councillor (OH&S) during a 25-day televote that ended at 12 Noon on May 25.
The other candidate who ran for Executive Councillor (OH&S) was Frances Holowach.
The other two candidates who ran for Executive Councillor (Pensions) were Maxine Armstrong and Howard Searle.
Also, current BCNU Treasurer Mabel Tung was re-elected to the position by acclamation. Tung, Rose and Dhillon will begin serving their two-year terms on September 1, 2007.
BCNU Nominations chair Colette Wickstrom thanked all the candidates for their commitment to our union and for running fair and open election campaigns. "Each candidate is dedicated to improving the working lives of our members and ensuring that our patients receive the quality of health care they deserve," says Wickstrom.
"I also want to thank all of our members who took time out of their busy schedules to cast their votes in this important election."
The 2007 BCNU election was the first time there was a separate election for the two executive councillor positions. This change reflects the specialized duties each executive councillor will perform in addition to their common responsibilities. Len Rose, Executive Councillor (Pensions), will chair BCNU’s Pension Committee and Retired Nurses Network Committee. Marg Dhillon, Executive Councillor (OH&S), will chair BCNU’s OH&S Committee and serve as a board member of the Occupational Health and Safety Agency for Healthcare.
