Latest Bargaining Sessions Slower
Employer finds many OH&S issues hard to grasp
The latest set of bargaining sessions with HEABC this week were slower and became somewhat more difficult than the previous sessions, when BCNU put some of our OH&S issues on the table. Employer representatives are having a hard time appreciating the concerns of nurses about musculoskeletal injuries, about the dangers of nurses working alone, and about the problems with the long term disability plan. But the BCNU bargaining committee managed to get our entire package on OH&S on the table, leaving sections on equalizing language, classifications, harassment, and ratios still to be tabled.
HEABC has yet to put its proposals on the table, except for three minor issues.
On levelling, the employer has reported that other health care unions are also having difficulty using available monies for levelling to cover all their needs. Like BCNU, the money provided in the 1996 contract for levelling for them is also far short of what's needed.
More bargaining dates are scheduled for this week and for the rest of May and June, and dates have been proposed for July, August, and September.
