Essential Services Bulletin
Preparing for the next steps
On February 23, 2001, the Labour Relations Board issued an order to move the essential services process along.
The order clarified that the information to be exchanged between the unions and the employers should include, but not be limited to:
- proposed services to be deemed essential
- proposed specific essential service designation plans
- normal staffing levels
- and the overtime and vacancies which relate to these normal staffing levels
|
Since this time, progress has been made but there are still some employers who haven’t provided the necessary information. If all the necessary information is not received by end of day March 2nd, 2001 Essential Services stewards should let their LRO know, so the matter can be referred to the LRB for mediation.
We have already applied for mediation on some plans and anticipate we will have dates in the near future.
There will be an administrative meeting at the LRB on March 7th so that the unions, employers and the LRB can update one another on the status of negotiations. We will issue a bulletin following this meeting.
All stewards involved in essential services planning deserve a huge round of applause and congratulations for all their hard work on behalf of BCNU members.
