All nurses invited to join cavalcade and rally at B.C. Children’s and Women’s on March 28

A rally will be held on the front lawn of BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital, 4480 Oak Street, Vancouver from 1:00 to 1:30 on Wednesday March 28, 2001. The theme will be: children are worth it, nurses are worth it.

Delegates to the BCNU annual convention will leave the Richmond Inn at 12:30 and travel by bus or car to the rally. Nurses at convention are encouraged to decorate their cars and travel by cavalcade with buses in support of our bargaining demand for a vehicle mileage increase. Materials for decorating vehicles will be available at convention.

How to join if not at convention
Any nurses wishing to join the cavalcade, should meet in the gravel parking lot at the corner of Alderbridge and Westminster Highway (between the Richmond Inn and the Executive Inn), at 12:20.

If time is a problem, nurses may also want to join the cavalcade at 1 pm at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital where cars will be circling the site. It is very difficult to find a parking spot in the area, either in the hospital parking lots or on the neighbouring streets. Therefore, once you’ve circled you may want to return to work or to convention.

Speakers at the rally include:
  • Debra McPherson, BCNU President Elect
  • Kathleen Connors, CFNU President
  • Heather Smith, United Nurses of Alberta President
  • Linda Carter, chair of Shaughnessy Heights Region
  • Pennies for Children’s Miracle Network (Telethon)
Nurses from BC Children’s and Women’s are collecting pennies for the Children’s Miracle Network. Please help them to fill their banks– bring your pennies to convention or the rally.
