Two more "poor planners" targeted May 31
Nurses staged very successful four hour study sessions Thursday at Richmond Hospital and Chilliwack General Hospital in response to employers’ poor planning and their refusal to reduce their reliance on nurses working overtime.
At Richmond more than 50 nurses plus a number of student nurses attended the session. An effective team of stewards, the Regional Chair, Bargaining Committee members and staff presented information and answered questions on why the hospital was targeted and why they should vote no on the latest offer from HEABC. Nurses also learned more about the citizen appeal campaign and the plan to garner physician support. A physician was found to sign the letter of support even before the session was over.
At Chilliwack an equally effective team spoke to more than 30 nurses gathered to hear how their employer was not cooperating with or respecting BCNU stewards. They received information on the no vote and actions they could take to support a better offer. They also viewed video clips from some of the countless TV news stories on our job action.
