HEABC asks for one week to respond to NBA's new comprehensive proposal for settlement

The Nurses' Bargaining Association met with the Health Employers Association today. The NBA bargaining team provided HEABC with full details of our new comprehensive proposal for settlement.

HEABC negotiators informed us that they need time to consider all of our proposals. They also told us they require additional time to talk with their members about the special joint committee the NBA has proposed to start the process of cutting overtime by 50 per cent at the local level.

Both sides agreed to return to the bargaining table next Tuesday, July 10, 2001. Those talks, like today's, will be held under the auspices of Industrial Inquiry Commissioner Vince Ready.

BCNU's bargaining team and Council will be using the seven days to meet and lobby CEOs of regional health boards to explain details of our proposals. In particular, we need to explain how reducing overtime will not only help save nurses' health, but save taxpayers money.

Stay tuned to the hotline for more information and talk with your steward to find out how to participate in local events.
