HEABC says new language changes won’t be implemented until September 8
A letter received by BCNU from HEABC states they will be advising their members not to implement any language provisions, other than those with a specified effective date, until 30 days after August 9, 2001 (the day that Bill 15, which imposed the final offer settlement was passed). This means that language changes, e.g., casual call-in and designated days off will not be implemented until September 8, 2001.
Bulletins sent out last week from BCNU indicated the new language was already in effect. As per HEABC’s letter, this is not the case, so any nurses working part-time who are called in on their designated day off should still be attracting overtime. Similarly, casual call-in by seniority should still be occurring as per language in the Provincial Collective Agreement.
Note that wage increases and increases to on-call, night shift premium, weekend premium and the new super shift premium are effective April 1, 2001. The increase in mileage allowance from 38 cents to 42 cents per kilometer is effective July 1st, 2001.
Clarification on wage increase April 1, 2002
We have been receiving many questions regarding the wage schedule sent with the bulletin "Qualifying for increment steps in Provincially Imposed Language."
On the second page of the schedule, there are two grids for April 1, 2002. This is because HEABC chose to separate a general wage increase of 55 cents per hour from what they are calling market adjustment increases. So as of April 1, 2002 you will receive the hourly rate as indicated in the second grid, which contains the ninth year.
