BCNU members: Do not attend any restructuring meetings in your workplace without a steward
BCNU members are being asked to attend meetings with management concerning the downsizing or restructuring of health care services.
The union advises members not to attend any meetings about downsizing or restructuring without a BCNU steward. This includes ward, unit or staff meetings, or meetings in which individuals are called in to meet with managers regarding restructuring plans. Any suggestions made by members at such meetings could be used by management as agreement to eliminate BCNU positions or cut services. Please remember that individual members cannot speak for or represent BCNU in their worksites. Only stewards are authorized to speak on behalf of BCNU and the membership as a whole.
In addition, members should be aware of other meetings they should not attend without a steward present. For example, following a picket line in Duncan recently, management asked nurses to attend investigatory meetings on an individual basis without a steward. BCNU members are advised not to attend any similar meetings without a steward. Members have the right to ask that a steward attend any meeting with management.
