Municipal Pension Plans makes two rules changes
Severing of seniority no longer required to receive a pension from the MPP
The Municipal Pension Plan Board of Trustees voted to change the plans rules regarding retirement and seniority rights. You are no longer required to sever seniority rights to receive your pension under the Municipal Pension Plan.
Before this change members who retired and who wanted to continue to work as a casual could be forced to go to the bottom of the seniority list in order to receive a pension. This practice contravened the Provincial Collective Agreement which allows a member to retain seniority if hired back within 30 days of termination.
Pension contributions when you work for more than one employer under the MPP
When you work for more than one employer and contribute to the MPP in both places, all contributions will count towards your pension. You will be credited with a maximum of 12 months of pensionable service (or less if you work less than full time employment). The combined salary you earn from each employer will be used to determine your Highest Average Salary.
