Polling scheduled for nurses working part-time or casual

Telephone polling begins this week among BCNU members who are working part-time or casual.

The polling is aimed at determining the main reasons nurses are working in part time and/or casual positions. It also seeks to determine what factors, if any, might lead nurses who are working part-time or casual to decide to apply for full-time positions.

BCNU needs this information to prepare for provincial bargaining in 2004. Previous polling indicated that workload is the main issue nurses want addressed in this round of bargaining. Proposals to encourage the employer to create more regular positions and improve working conditions could have a significant impact on workload in many workplaces.

The polling will be conducted by CGT Research International. The firm has already completed projects involving focus groups and polling of BCNU members and stewards earlier this year. More polling among all BCNU members is planned for later this year.

If you are contacted by CGT please co-operate and participate in the survey.
