Health Employers Association of BC appeal halts paramedical extended health claim resolution

An appeal filed at the Labour Relations Board by the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) is preventing the implementation of an award that directed Pacific Blue Cross to cover 80% of the full cost of visits to physiotherapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, naturopaths and for non-surgical podiatry.

The arbitration award was the outcome of a grievance filed by BCNU in February, 2002.

The appeal also halts the review and re-adjudication of all paramedical claims to Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) since January 1, 2002. At that time, the Liberal government eliminated coverage of these services under the Medical Services Plan and employers balked at reimbursing plan members for costs that would have been covered by MSP.

BCNU will inform members when the outcome of the appeal is known. Until that time, there will be no progress on reimbursement of disallowed claims.
