"Made in the North" deal to save jobs affects only support staff
RNs and RPNs are not covered by proposed rollbacks to prevent privatization and contracting out of health care support work

RNs and RPNs are not covered by the "Made in the North" agreement aimed at preventing the privatization and contracting out of support services by the Northern Health Authority.

The proposed wage reductions and other concessions in the agreement only affect health care support workers and other staff such as care aides and LPNs who are covered by the Facilities Subsector Collective Agreement.

BCNU is certified to represent the support staff at the North Peace Care Centre in Fort St. John. This agreement will affect those members.

All unionized RNs and RPNs in the NHA are part of the Nurses’ Bargaining Association, which has its own contract.

BCNU sent out information about the "Made in the North" agreement so all members would be informed about events affecting their colleagues in the support staff.

If the agreement is ratified, support workers would make significant sacrifices to preserve good jobs and critical services in communities battered by the policies of the Campbell Liberals, who are refusing to provide adequate funding to the health care system. The concessions would be cancelled across the north if the NHA serves notice of its intention to contract out services at any facility or agency covered by the contract.
