$1.5 million paid out on paramedical extended health claims
BCNU arbitration win results in member reimbursement
Over 71,000 claims which have been submitted to Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) for paramedical services since January 1, 2002 have been re-adjudicated as a result of a BCNU arbitration win which directed PBC to pay for 80% of the full cost of paramedical extended health claims. Over $1.5 million has been paid out in addition to the amount originally reimbursed to claimants.
In order to be eligible for additional reimbursement, you must have done the following:
- submitted a claim for paramedical services (visits to a physiotherapist, massage therapist, chiropractor, naturopath and podiatrist for non-surgical procedures) during 2002 or 2003
- submitted your original claim by the applicable deadline for the calendar year in which the services were incurred. The deadline for submitting claims is June 30th of the following year of expense.

Not all claims result in reimbursement
There are a number of reasons why you may not have received additional money for your paramedical claims. You would not have received any additional reimbursement if either of the following apply:
- you had already reached the yearly maximum for the service. For example, $200 is the maximum each family member can claim for chiropractic services each year
- you had already been reimbursed 100% for the claim through a combination of your coverage and your spouse’s coverage.
