BCNU is not connected with TV election ad featuring an RN who supports the BC Liberals’ health care policies
BCNU wants members to know that a nurse featured in a BC Liberal election ad is not speaking on behalf of the BC Nurses’ Union and our 25,000 members.
The Richmond public health nurse claimed in the TV ad that the Liberals are “the party that is going to help me do my job the best and provide the best service to the patients in my community.”
BCNU of course supports everyone’s right to freedom of speech, but we also want to ensure our members understand that we are not involved in any way with the making of this ad. Although our union is politically active, we continue to remain non-partisan.
If you feel the public health nurse’s statement in the TV ad isn’t an accurate description of what is happening to health care at your worksite, we suggest you write a letter to your local newspaper, or call a talk show, and describe what is really going on and how recent health care cuts are negatively affecting nurses and our patients.
The full text of the ad states: “Why am I voting for the BC Liberals? Because as a public health nurse they’re the party that is going to help me do my job the best and provide the best service to the patients in my community.
“The Liberals have addressed the problem that my colleagues in nursing are quickly approaching retirement age and we need a set plan to recruit and retain good staff in nursing.”
