Last chance to persuade the WCB to fix its proposed new sharps regulation
Your voice/fingers are needed to make a difference
Login in to the BCNU website and follow the
Sharps Regulation
link. Here you can find out the latest information on the proposed new sharps regulation that goes to public hearings starting May 12, 2006. Every voice or submission counts. The WorkSafe BC board (formerly WCB) gets a report of the number of workers and employers who submitted.
Currently the proposed new regulation misses the majority of sharps
- Only covers vascular access hollow bore devices (not intramuscular or subcutaneous or scalpels or sutures)
- The regulation won't be in effect until January 2008
- The regulation doesn't say anything about providing the safest device
- There is no mechanism to track or log injuries
- There is no process to involve workers in selecting appropriate devices
- The regulation doesn't cover best practices like no hand to hand passing, or neutral space.
Take 5 minutes and tell WorkSafe BC why this regulation doesn't go far enough to protect nurses and other workers.
Tell them your personal story and that you support the BCNU proposal for a stronger regulation.
Go to the comment section of the
WCB Sharps regulation which is Part 6
of the regulation. Follow the steps to identify yourself. All information is kept confidential.
