Bargaining to start October 2006

The 12th Nurses Master Public Service collective agreement expires on December 31, 2006.  In the fall, bargaining will commence with the BC Public Service Agency, which negotiates on behalf of the BC government.

In preparation for bargaining, both BCNU and UPN sent out a jointly developed survey to obtain input from the membership regarding bargaining priorities.  Following receipt of the surveys, draft bargaining proposals were developed.

The two Unions held separate Bargaining Conferences where the draft proposals were discussed and voted upon.

The Unions also elected their members for the joint Public Service Nurses’ Bargaining Association (PSNBA) bargaining committee.  The BCNU members of the committee are Richard Sanassy from Riverview and Ellen Wilson from the Forensic Psychiatric Institute.  The UPN members of the committee are Max Davidson, President of UPN, from Youth Forensic Services, Bev Stewart from Riverview, Phillip Oosterman and Sherry Mollar from the Forensic Psychiatric Institute.  The BCNU alternate is Sheinoor Manji from Riverview. The UPN alternate is Guy Payne from the Forensic Psychiatric Institute.

The joint PSNBA bargaining committee met on August 17, 2006 to discuss the amalgamated draft proposals.  Further proposals were developed and discussed.  The joint committee will meet again on September 15 to finalize the bargaining proposals for the first day of bargaining which will be held on October 4, 2006.

Watch for further bulletins as bargaining progresses.
