Independent bargaining – tentative deal at Bevan Lodge, agreement ratified at Grand Street Lodge

Bevan Lodge
A tentative agreement was reached March 30 between BCNU and Bevan Lodge, a long term care facility in Abbotsford. The proposed contract is for three years retroactive to January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2009. It would see RNs and RPNs receive wage increases totaling 11.4 per cent.

Highlights of the agreement are:

  • Wage increase of 3.3 per cent retroactive to Jan.1/07
  • Wage increase of 3.1 per cent effective Jan.1/08
  • Wage increase of 4.2 per cent effective Jan.1/09
  • Night shift premium increased to $2.00/hr
  • Evening shift premium increased to $1.00/hr
  • Weekend shift premium increased to $1.25/hr
  • Responsibility Pay increase to $2.25/hr
  • Sick leave maximum accumulation increased to 120 days
  • Vacation entitlement for employees with over nine years of service
    increased to 25 days from 20 days
  • Vision care increased to $200.00/24 months

A ratification vote will be held on April 12 at Bevan Lodge from 1-4 pm.

Grand Street Lodge
Meanwhile, BCNU members at Grand Street Lodge in Mission have ratified their contract with a 100 per cent 'yes' vote. The four-year agreement (effective October 1, 2006 to March 31, 2010) provides wage increases of 14.2 per cent over the life of the agreement.
