Progress on new PRF Assessment Committees
Chairs selected and Letter of Understanding agreed

The ability to forward Professional Responsibility Forms to Assessment Committees is now within reach, following the successful negotiation of a Letter of Understanding (LOU) last week. The LOU confirms a list of Assessment Committee chairs and provides guidelines for the process. Once selection of BCNU nominees is completed in the near future, we can expect our first Assessment Committee hearings to occur.

This work stems from the revision to Article 59 of the Provincial Collective Agreement – Professional Responsibility Form, negotiated during our last round of bargaining. The revised language calls for a new process for worksites directly owned and operated by the Health Authorities, Providence Healthcare and St Joseph’s General Hospital in Comox. In this new process, where the issue has not been resolved at the earlier stages, the presentation to the Health Authority Board of Directors has been replaced by an Assessment Committee.

An Assessment Committee is made up of a union nominee, an employer nominee and a mutually agreed upon chair. Once formed, the Assessment Committee has the authority to conduct a review, and is empowered to investigate and make recommendations.

Please contact a BCNU steward at your work site or the PRF Officer at the BCNU office for more information on taking a PRF forward to an Assessment Committee.
