"Sharing our successes, action into practice"
BCNU celebrates nursing week with a major professional conference and radio ad

BCNU is celebrating Nursing Week by sponsoring a major professional nursing conference in Vancouver and purchasing a radio ad congratulating the efforts of our members across the province.

The conference May 7-8 focuses on the work nurses are doing to identify challenges in delivering quality patient care and to push for improvements.

For example keynote speaker Judy Duchscher, a Saskatchewan based educator and researcher, will describe the challenges new nurses face entering the workforce and the actions that are necessary to ensure the transition from school to work is successful. Linda Silas, president of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions will describe how nurses turn ideas into action.

Several nurses from the front lines of patient care will describe their efforts to improve workplace health and safety.

Highlights of conference presentations will be posted for viewing on the BCNU website shortly afterward.

The radio ad will run on selected stations May 7-11 in all regions of the province. It refers to the Nursing Week theme chosen by the International Council of Nurses — "Quality workplaces equals quality patient care."

It goes on to say "…the BC Nurses Union applauds the care delivered by our members, despite working conditions that are often challenging.  Reducing the workloads and ending violence is critical to attracting and keeping nurses and other health care staff. Nurses have solutions and will continue to promote them to ensure patients get the care they need.  The BC Nurses' Union … celebrating our members' contributions to health care.
