Is politics in your future? BCNU is offering you two opportunities this month to become the leader you were meant to be.

Two full scholarships are still available for two BCNU members to attend the Canadian Women Voters Congress Women’s Campaign School – on November 16, 17 and 18.

Courses include:

  • The ABCs of Government - Campaign Strategies
  • First Nations Governance - Securing the Nomination - Campaign Ethics
  • Media Relations - Presentation Skills and Public Speaking

Speakers include:

  • Margaret Hope - Internationally-accredited professional speaker.
  • Penny Priddy – Former BC NDP MLA, Cabinet Minister and Surrey City Councillor
  • Hon. Linda Reid – BC Liberal MLA and Minister of State for Childcare

BCNU supports the only nonpartisan Women's Campaign School in Canada, now in its eighth year and located in Vancouver. Any woman candidate considering running in the next municipal, provincial or federal election would benefit from this opportunity. The Congress is a nonpartisan, grass roots organization, dedicated to encouraging all Canadian women to become strong, effective voices at all levels of government. Women are 51% of the population, yet the number of women in elected positions across Canada remains fewer than 25%.

Because BCNU believes our members should be encouraged to run for elected office, BCNU is also hosting a one day networking session on November 30 for our members who may be interested in running for an elected position in the next municipal election. Skills sharing, dialogues with individuals who have run for office and information about the BC Federation of Labour’s Count Me In campaign will all be part of this "BCNU Municipal candidates networking" day.

To apply for either of these opportunities send an Email or a FAX along with a 100-word application which includes your contact information, your work, volunteer, and political experience, and your political aspirations to: Sharon Costello or by FAX to 604 433-7945 or toll – free 1- 800 - 663 – 9991. Please clearly mark your applications "Nov 30 networking day" or "Women’s Campaign School"

DEADLINE for application is 5pm Friday November 9, 2007.
