BCNU celebrates Nursing Week
Activities include a postcard campaign to the Premier, a professional nursing conference and radio ads

BCNU will celebrate National Nursing Week May 12-18 with a variety of projects and activities including a postcard campaign to the Premier, our second annual professional nursing conference and radio ads honouring our members.

Members are receiving in the mail a letter from BCNU President Debra McPherson about our campaign to address health system overcapacity and overcrowding. The mailing includes a postcard to the Premier. It puts him on notice that nurses deserve respect and that we expect to be fully involved in planning patient care 52 weeks a year, not just during Nursing Week. Please fill out the postcard and mail it to the Premier.

The union is also sponsoring our second annual Nursing Week conference May 15-16 entitled "Sharing our Successes: Leading Innovations." Registration is full for the conference which will feature keynote speakers about worklife balance, intergenerational issues and other professional concerns. Conference proceedings will be available afterwards on our website.

In addition, BCNU will be sponsoring radio ads throughout the province highlighting our members' contributions to patient care amid staff shortages and challenging working conditions.

Members planning to organize Nursing Week events in their workplaces may access additional postcards to the Premier from your regional chair or lobby coordinator. A new advocacy leaflet has also been created which draws the connection between healthcare overcapacity and overcrowding and the campaign to strengthen public health care. For more information contact your regional chair or the BCNU Communications Department at 604-433-2268 or toll free 1-800-663-9991.
