BCNU urges support for Haiti disaster relief, leads by example
BCNU has responded to the disaster in Haiti with a $20,000 donation to assist with emergency aid for earthquake victims. The funds will be sent to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF - Doctors Without Borders) through the Canadian Federation of Nurses' Unions (CFNU).
BCNU encourages its members to join the relief efforts by donating to MSF or through other organizations detailed by the International Council of Nurses (ICN).
Médecins Sans Frontières is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid. Aside from the immediate needs of the staggering number of Haitians who need urgent medical assistance and supplies, there are also needs for long term healthcare rehabilitation.
CFNU has collected $65,000 to date from its member organizations and its own donation. The largest donation came from BCNU. CFNU will send the donation to MSF before the end of January as outlined in a memo issued January 22.
Visit the MSF website to donate or for information on their work.
Other ways nurses can help are listed by The International Council of Nurses.
