Illegal medicare billing –
Judge postpones court case until October

A BC Supreme Court judge today postponed a hearing concerning BCNU's legal action against the provincial government until Oct. 29.

The government is claiming BCNU has no authority to bring the case to court, but the judge said the government's argument would require more time than the single day available for both sides today. Four days have been set aside Oct. 29 - Nov. 1.

The union is seeking a Court order requiring the government to protect patients from extra billing and user fees that are being charged by private clinics and medical specialists for services covered by medicare.
