BCNU is celebrating Nursing Week by sponsoring a major professional nursing conference in Vancouver and purchasing a radio ad congratulating the efforts of our members across the province.
The conference — May 7-8 at the Four Seasons Hotel — focuses on the work nurses are doing to identify challenges in delivering quality patient care and to push for improvements.
Opening key note address — 8:30 am Monday May 7
Saskatchewan nursing educator and researcher Judy Duchscher will tackle one of the most critical issues affecting the future of patient care at a time of severe shortages – the challenges new nurses face leaving school and entering the nursing workforce.
News Conference — 10:15 am Monday May 7 — Arbutus Room Four Seasons Hotel
Critical issue at a time of shortage - ensuring new nurses can make the transition from school to work:
- Keynote speaker Judy Duchscher – the challenges for new nurses.
- Christina Berlanda, - Victoria RN, who pushed for the creation of BC’s
highly successful employment program for Undergraduate Nurses while still a
University of Victoria nursing student.
- Naomi Erickson, who mentors new nurses in the Interior Health Authority.
- BCNU president Debra McPherson.
Radio Ad
The radio ad will run on selected stations May 7-11 in all regions of the province. It refers to the Nursing Week theme chosen by the International Council of Nurses "Quality workplaces equals quality patient care."
