CHRIS ARMEANU FOR BCNU COUNCILLOR

I became a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in 2012 after graduating from Douglas College earning a Bachelor In Science Degree in Psychiatric Nursing.

I also hold an Associate Degree in Computer Science-Applications Programmer from Oakton College in Skokie, Illinois

My experience includes working sites such as Royal Columbian Hospital, Ridge Meadows Hospital, Chilliwack General Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, Cottonwood/Conolly/Cypress Lodge and Cedar Ridge Lodge working with the acute psychiatric disorder and substance use population. Being an RPN, I know what it takes to stay safe in the work place.

Objectives

BCNU needs a new direction, and a new leadership.

My platform includes bringing back term limits for elected BCNU positions among other progressive changes which will make BCNU more transparent and reinstall democracy in its rightful place.

Because of the unpredictable nature of our work, nurses face among the highest rates of work-related injury and illness. British Columbia Workers' Compensation Board statistics show working in health care is more dangerous than working in such industries as mining and petroleum extraction.

I strongly believe that Occupational Health and Safety Committees will have to ensure employers provide healthy and safe working environments. Personally I view this as not only an essential protection of the well-being of our members, but as a vital protection of the quality of care received by our patients. We recognize safe and competent care cannot be provided in an unhealthy or unsafe workplace.

A new leadership in OH&S committee at BCNU will closely monitor working conditions and practices to ensure safe and healthy workplaces, provide a formal process for recommendations to eliminate hazard.

BCNU members deserve better – we need to rediscover our roots as a member-driven, grassroots, democratic union. With your help, we can do just that.
