BCNU Elections 2026: Delegates Get to Know their Provincial Executive Committee Candidates
BCNU holds elections for provincial executive officers and regional council members every three years. This year’s elections take place May 4-7.
Delegates at Convention 2026 had an opportunity to hear firsthand from their candidates for the provincial executive committee during a question-and-answer session hosted by the nominations committee on the evening of April 28.
Nominations committee chair Will Chambers opened the event by outlining the agenda and rules before launching into the questions.
Presidential candidates Adriane Gear and Reynaldo Antonio Ortiz were first to the podium. Each delivered a short opening address before answering questions on their top priorities, commitments to transparency, and ideas for specific strategies and initiatives.
There are two candidates for the Executive Councillor – Occupational Health and Safety and Mental Health role, Aida Herrera and Denise Waurynchuk. Waurynchuk attended and answered questions about her experience with workplace health and safety and approaches to effectively advocate for safer workplaces.
Closing out the evening were the two candidates running for Executive Councillor – Pensions: Michelle Sordal and Sharon Sponton. Both spoke about the experiences they bring to the role and their ideas for public policy initiatives to support current and future retirees.
Vice President and incumbent, Tristan Newby and new treasurer Scott Duvall, who currently sits on the Nurses’ Bargaining Association provincial bargaining committee, were both acclaimed to their positions, so did not participate in the question-and-answer event.
The full question-and-answer session is available on the BCNU Member Portal.
