Applications are now closed for the April 2024 intake. The application form for the April 2025 intake will be available in January 2025.
The Indigenous Member Bursary, being awarded for the first time in 2024, is for BCNU members and student members, reflects the union’s ongoing support for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action, in particular the call to increase the number of Indigenous professionals in health care.
The provincial government’s November 2020 report, In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous Specific Racism and Discrimination in BC Health Care echoes the call to action raised by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. The report made it clear that BC needs more Indigenous nurses to help foster a culture of safety in our health-care system.
The Indigenous Member Bursary is awarded once per year. Five successful applicants will receive $1,000 each.
