The Strategic Priorities Education Fund (SPEF) was a one-time fund aimed to support education
related to strategic priorities including long-term care, mental health,
substance use, and career laddering. During negotiations between the Ministry
of Health and BCNU in the last round of bargaining, it was determined that it was important to address the needs within these areas of nursing. BCNU members were able to apply and access the Strategic Priorities Education Fund. Funds have now been exhausted.
Nurses pursuing education in the areas of community care of frail and medically complex seniors, including long-term care, mental health, and substance use could apply to receive up to $1,000 from the SPEF. In addition, nurses advancing across the career ladder, for example, an LPN pursuing an education toward an RN designation, or an RN or RPN seeking a BSN, were also eligible.
To be eligible, members must have received funding from the Member Education Bursary (MEB) in the past.
A member cannot receive funding from both the MEB and the SPEF in the same calendar year.
Applicants were reviewed by the bursary committee and contacted if they met the requirements to receive the support.
