Adriane Gear had been serving as South Islands region co-chair since her election in 2011. She was motivated to become a steward after receiving a needle stick injury while pregnant with her second child in 2002, when she felt the health authority had not taken her health and safety seriously.
She has been an RN since 1993 working in long-term care and general surgery at Saanich Peninsula, Royal Jubilee, and Victoria General hospitals.
Adriane is passionate about occupational health and safety and believes mentorship of BCNU’s OH&S stewards and regional representatives is paramount for ensuring that employers' are held accountable, and provide nurses with safe and healthy workplaces. She wants members to be able to return home to their families free from harm at the end of their shift. She says nursing shouldn't be dangerous work and looks forward to working with members to change the current workplace culture that views injury and violence as part of the profession.
Adriane resides on the Saanich Peninsula with her husband, two teenage athletes and their pet boxer, "Miley".
