Sharon Sponton became treasurer for BCNU in September of 2016, following her role as chair of the North West Region. She served on the North West Region's executive team as treasurer for two terms before moving into the chair position in January of 2010. She became a steward in 2004, after recognizing breaches of the collective agreement and was driven to ensure contract compliance. A strong supporter of social justice and equity issues, BCNU's work in this area attracted her to become more involved.
Sharon has extensive experience as a direct care nurse. She graduated from UCFV in 1995. Since graduation, Sharon has worked in Acute Care, Palliative Care, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Home Care Nursing and Public Health. She has worked in urban hospitals in BC's lower mainland as well as rural, remote sites in BC's north. Sharon values the experiences she has gained through her wide nursing background, and her commitment to nursing and to nurses is foundational to her steward, chair and treasurer roles within the BCNU.
Sharon graduated from UBC with a Masters in Business Administration in Health Care in 2013 and from Dalhousie University with a Certificate in Financial Management in March of 2017.
