Danielle Bourque-Bearskin

Danielle Bourque-Bearskin

Speaker Bio:
I am known as Danielle Bourque-Bearskin, the great granddaughter of Marianne Bearskin of Beaver Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 6 Territory, Alberta. This is where nohkum (my grandmother) Elma Bourque Bearskin and nikawiy (my mother) Raymonde Lisa Bourque Bearskin, also known as "Mona", were born. I acknowledge the privilege I hold as a white passing Nehiyaw Iskwew (Cree Woman), as my biological father was of mixed european ancestry. After completing a masters degree in Nursing with a research focus on Cultural Safety in Nursing Education, I continue to hold several nursing roles in a variety of settings. Alongside teaching as a sessional Instructor at McMaster University within the School of Nursing, I currently practice on the front line as a Critical Care nurse in the ICU and as a Public Health nurse for Indigenous Services Canada. Since May, I have been working for the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch under Indigenous Services Canada as a Public Health nurse in Sandy Lake First Nation, a remote fly-in reserve in north-western Ontario, responding directly to the impact of COVID-19 within FN communities.
