Bursary Recipient Profile: Emily Martens

"I am incredibly thankful to have the support of BCNU as I continue my education journey from LPN to RN.

Emily Martens has always been drawn to helping others and naturally gravitated to a career in nursing. Martens began her career as an LPN four years ago. “I have always known that I would go back to school one day to earn my RN designation,” she says, “and I believe my experience and foundation as an LPN will be a great asset to me as a future registered nurse.”

Martens has her sights on graduating from the UBC Okanagan campus School of Nursing program in 2022. “I am still working casually at Kelowna General Hospital but thanks to BCNU’s bursary, I don’t have to pick up as many shifts. The bursary funds have allowed me to take much needed time off work, allowing me to focus on my studies without worrying about finances.”

When asked about her future aspirations as an RN she says, “I have a very personal connection with organ donation and hope to one day make a difference helping donor families as a transplant coordinator for BC Transplant."

“On behalf of the committee, I wish Emily every success as she pursues her education and career goals. BCNU is proud to support members in all walks of their nursing careers. The Member Education Bursary program is one of many ways we support our members.”
