BCNU Council to Appoint New Provincial Treasurer

June 16, 2016
BC Nurses' Union Treasurer Mabel Tung today tendered her resignation, citing family reasons for her decision.

Tung will continue to serve until September 1, 2016, and will step down from her role leaving the union in a strong financial position.

Tung has served as BCNU's provincial treasurer since 2003. During this time she worked to help establish BCNU's Human Rights and Equity Committee, and as committee chair she has worked to create a safe environment for the union's diverse membership.

In accordance with BCNU bylaws, the union's provincial council will appoint a new treasurer tomorrow. This individual will join BCNU's provincial executive committee in September.

Two BCNU council members have expressed interest in replacing Tung. They are:

  • Claudette Jut, chair, BCNU Shaughnessy Heights region>
  • Sharon Sponton, chair, BCNU North West region

The appointment will be completed at noon tomorrow, and the union will communicate the result immediately.
