HEU's Contracted Workers Issue 72-Hour Strike Notice

HEU members employed by Aramark, Compass, Marquis, Sodexo across the Lower Mainland issued 72-hour strike notice last Friday and could take some form of job action as soon as today. *

On Vancouver Island, HEU members who are employed by Acciona and Compass Group (Crothwell Services Canada, Marquis Hospitality, Morrison Food Services) to provide food and housekeeping services issued strike notice today and could take job action as early as Thursday, September 21, 2017. It is anticipated that retail food services and the Tim Horton's at Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital will be closed.

If you arrive at your worksite and you see a picket line, look for an alternative entrance to attend work. There should be a designated entrance.

All unionized workers, other than the food and dietary staff who are employed by the contractors at the affected worksites, are required to report to work.* If you are prevented from entering your worksite contact your manager.

BCNU supports these workers' rights to negotiate a fair contract and secure better wages and benefits.

No BCNU member should undertake any work that would normally be done by these workers.

Discussions between the parties are continuing.

In the event that job action escalates, the companies and HEU have set essential services levels for the services required by patients, clients and residents. If you are concerned about an impact on care due to job action please bring the matter to the attention of your supervisor.
