All BCNU Members in Fraser Health region are now required to demonstrate measles immunity

September 13, 2013
All BCNU members in the Fraser Health Region need to be aware of this directive and comply with its requirements.

An updated public health directive has been issued by Fraser Health Authority Public Health & Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Paul Van Buynder after confirmed measles exposures in Emergency Departments at Chilliwack, Burnaby and Peace Arch Hospitals from Sept 1-3, 2013.

It is important to note that under the directive, staff without a medical contraindication and without immunity and who are not willing to be immunized will be sent home without pay until the outbreak is over.

Deadlines to demonstrate immunity to measles:

  • September 16 - All staff Fraser East (Abbotsford, Mission, Agassiz, Harrison, Chilliwack and Hope)
  • October 17 - All staff in Fraser Health areas outside Fraser East

This directive applies to all employed, contracted, and volunteer staff who access patient care areas. Staff working exclusively in long term care facilities are not included in this directive.
