Join BCNU's Run for the Cure team on October 6 at a location near you!

BCNU members, their families and allies are encouraged to sign up to join the BC Nurses' Union CIBC Run for the Cure multi-site team on Sunday, October 6, 2013. This year's BC run locations are Abbotsford, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Prince George, Surrey, Vancouver, Vernon and Victoria.

The Run for the Cure is a 1k or 5k fundraising event. You can choose to walk or run and you can also decide whether you wish to complete either 1 kilometre or 5 kilometres, depending on what you feel you are able to achieve (strollers are welcome!). The annual event raises funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Foundation seeks to reduce the burden of breast cancer through research, education, awareness and advocacy initiatives.

This event is the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada in support of the breast cancer cause. The BC Nurses' Union has participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure since 2007 as a multi-location sponsor. BCNU aims to have a local team captain at each location again this year. Contact your BCNU Regional Chair for details or if you would like to be the Team Captain for your local run.

If you do not feel you can participate by running or walking in the event but you would like to be part of the BC Nurses' Union team, you can help by volunteering at the BCNU table at your local run. We'll need volunteers who can reach out to the public with our safe care message the day of the event.

To register as a member of the BC Nurses Union team, visit runforthecure.com. Click on "Locations". Pick your location, then join a team and choose the team name: "BC Nurses Union" (note: no apostrophe).

Local teams of 10 members or more who have each paid their registration fee by September 20th, 2013 are eligible to receive a custom-printed BCNU team t-shirt.
