Labour Board proposal could transfer some BCNU members to other unions

August 30, 2013
BCNU will ask current members to re-join the nurses' union by signing membership applications

The BC Labour Relations Board has made a proposal to consolidate bargaining units that could transfer a small number of BCNU members to other unions.

BCNU members at the following worksites could be affected by the LRB's proposal:

Britannia Lodge, Fleetwood Place Care Facility, Greater Vancouver Community Services Societies, Jackman Manor, Little Mountain Place, Luther Court, Menno Hospital, Morgan Place, Nanaimo Travellers Lodge, Saint Elizabeth Health Care and Kiwanis Pavilion.

There may be additions to this list which we will report as they arise.

The LRB has established a schedule for written submissions to discuss their proposal and no BCNU member will be transferred to another union until discussion is complete. The first written submissions are due on September 6, 2013 and finalizing the matter may take several months.

If the LRB does eventually decide to transfer BCNU members to other unions, BCNU will ask nurses at those facilities to sign BCNU membership applications and rejoin BCNU.

BCNU is committed to uniting all nurses into a strong, professional union that improves practice conditions and supports nurses as they advocate for patients.

When more information is available it will be communicated to members at the affected worksites.
