Pacific Blue Cross restores previous drug coverage

March 08, 2013
Members can use their Blue Card to obtain prescriptions as they did before February 1. Implementation of PharmaCare tie-in delayed until June 1

Pacific Blue Cross has confirmed that its system is up and running to restore prescription drug coverage to what was in place before the PharmaCare tie-in took effect February 1. Between now and June 1 prescription drug coverage will not be limited by PharmaCare rules. Until June 1 members should be able to use their Blue Net card the same way they did before February 1.

This follows the agreement reached last week between BCNU and the Heath Employers Association of BC to delay implementation of the Pharmacare tie-in until June 1 to provide more time to resolve outstanding issues and prepare for the change.

In this interim period members should work with their healthcare providers to ensure they are ready for the changes, including obtaining any Special Authority certificates required for coverage of needed medications.
