Regional bargaining strategy conferences get underway

September 18, 2013
BCNU is beginning preparations for the next round of provincial bargaining by holding regional bargaining strategy conferences throughout the province this fall and early winter.

All BCNU members in the Nurses Bargaining Association (NBA), whether covered by the NBA or FBA collective agreement, may attend their regional bargaining strategy conference and run for a position on the nurses' bargaining committee or provincial job action committee. The current Provincial Collective Agreement expires March 31, 2014. Representation at the regional bargaining strategy conferences is at least one member from each worksite.

Business to be conducted at regional bargaining strategy conferences

As outlined in BCNU's constitution and bylaws, the regional bargaining strategy conferences are held for the purpose of communicating current bargaining context and the process of bargaining; identifying the two top priorities and outcomes for which members would be prepared for job action if necessary; discussing strategies/activities to support bargaining; and nominating candidates for the Nurses' Bargaining Association bargaining committee.

Call for nominations for provincial nurses' bargaining committee

To run for the provincial nurses' bargaining committee members must be nominated at their regional bargaining strategy conference. They must also be elected as delegates to the provincial bargaining strategy conference, which is scheduled for December 3 and 4, in Vancouver. Elections for the bargaining committee will be held at the provincial bargaining conference. The length of term will be until the date of ratification of the tentative agreement.

Elections for delegates to provincial bargaining strategy conference

Most regions will choose their provincial bargaining conference delegates at their regional bargaining conferences.

Presentations at regional bargaining strategy conferences

Members attending the regional conferences will hear from BCNU president Debra McPherson and Gary Fane, BCNU's executive director of negotiations and strategic development. They will get an opportunity to answer an important questionnaire about bargaining priorities.
