BCNU Now Has Help for Members Trying to Get Family Back to Canada from Abroad

March 22, 2020
Free legal support available to assist with family repatriation efforts

BCNU members who find themselves among the many Canadians trying to bring family members home from out-of-country can now access free legal counsel to assist them in their efforts.

BC lawyers Jim Gould and Lisa Southern (contact info below) can be reached directly if needed.

The union hopes this support will help to mitigate some of the burdens members may be experiencing.

Members should also be aware that financial help is available for Canadians affected by COVID-19 outside Canada. The federal government's newly created COVID-19 Emergency Loan Program for Canadians Abroad is designed to cover basic essential needs while travellers work towards their return.

Eligible Canadians currently outside Canada who need financial assistance should contact Global Affairs Canada's 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa at +1 613-996-8885 (call collect where available) or CAN.finances.CV19@international.gc.ca.

If they have not already done so, Canadians who are still out-of-country should register with the federal government's Register of Canadians Abroad.
