Register to Vote in Provincial General Election

September 22, 2020
Members have until September 26 to register to vote online or by phone

In response to BC Premier John Horgan's announcement of a fall election for October 24, Elections BC has published its plan to conduct a safe election during the pandemic. For those members planning to vote in-person, BCNU is advising all members to register or update their voter registration online or by phone with Elections BC until 8:00 pm (PT) September 26.

If you are ill or self-isolating, do not visit a voting place. Request a vote-by-mail package or call Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683 for assistance.

Voters can register or update their information online at elections.bc.ca/ovr, or by calling 1-800-661-8683.

  • By phone - closes at 8 p.m. (PT) on Saturday, September 26.
  • Online - closes at 11:59:59 p.m. (PT) on Saturday, September 26.

With physical distancing measures in place due to COVID-19, eligible voters can still register or update their voter registration when they vote, but it will make the voting process longer for them. Elections BC encourages voters to make sure their information is up to date now so they can vote faster, help reduce lineups at voting places and support physical distancing.

In order to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, have lived in BC for at least six months, and be over the age of 18. For more information visit Elections BC or call 1-800-661-8683, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Ways to vote

In-person: you may vote in person on General Voting Day on Saturday, October 24, in advance from Thursday, October 15 to Wednesday, October 21, or at a district electoral office from now until 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. Additional advance voting opportunities have been added to reduce the number of voters in voting places. Find out more about where to vote or check the where to vote app for regular updates.

By mail: All voters can vote by mail: you don't need a special reason. Voting by mail is a great option for voters who are not comfortable voting in person because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accessible voting: for at-risk voters and voters with disabilities: These options include curbside voting, assisted telephone voting, and site-based voting.

BCNU encourages all members to participate in the political process because the outcome affects us all.
