College Registration Reminder and Regulatory Update

March 19, 2026

BCCNM registration renewal deadline is March 31

Nurses in British Columbia are reminded to renew their registration with the BC College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) before the annual deadline of March 31 at 4:30 p.m.

Annual renewal ensures nurses continue to meet the requirements to practise competently, ethically and safely in the province. Nurses can complete their renewal application and pay fees by signing into their BCCNM account.

During the last round of Nurses’ Bargaining Association contract negotiations, BCNU successfully bargained the full reimbursement of nurses’ college registration fees from employers. The reimbursement process is managed by the employer. The reimbursement does not apply to the additional cost of professional liability insurance (Canadian Nurses Protective Society ,for RNs and RPNs or Navacord for LPNs), association membership fee or any other ancillary fee. Registration fees for the 2026–27 year were announced in December 2025. Members are encouraged to review the fee summary and ensure their renewal is completed on time.

BCCNM has also announced it will no longer offer a non-practising registration class after March 31, 2026. Members currently holding or considering this registration type should review this change ahead of the deadline.

Legislative changes coming into effect April 1

On April 1, the legislation governing BCCNM will transition from the Health Professions Act to the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA).

While the new legislation does not introduce significant changes to day-to-day nursing practice, it includes updates to college governance, board appointments and regulatory language.

BCCNM has updated its bylaws to align with the new legislation following consultation with registrants, the public, health partners and Indigenous leaders. Members are encouraged to learn more about these changes, including reviewing draft bylaws and watching a recorded webinar outlining key elements of the HPOA.
