New Health Spending Account Coming for Eligible NBA Retirees
New health-care reimbursement benefit available to eligible NBA Retiree Benefit Program members beginning January 1, 2027
Eligible members enrolled in the Nurses’ Bargaining Association (NBA) Retiree Benefit Program (RBP) will have access to a new health spending account (HSA) beginning January 1, 2027. The HSA provides up to $1,000 per calendar year to reimburse eligible health-care expenses recognized under the Income Tax Act and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines.
The RBP committee developed the HSA following a 2023 plan design review and member survey about future uses of the RBP fund. Pacific Blue Cross (PBC) will administer the HSA. It is separate from extended health and dental benefits available through the Municipal Retiree Benefit Trust (MRBT) for Municipal Pension Plan members.
Members whose required information is already on file will be automatically enrolled in the HSA. No action is required unless BCNU contacts them.
Members whose information is incomplete will be contacted directly by BCNU with instructions to complete an enrolment form. BCNU will collect the required information and submit it to PBC on members’ behalf.
Members contacted by BCNU may be asked for their PBC policy and ID numbers (if they already have PBC coverage), as well as the personal information needed to establish or link their HSA account.
