New Pilot Project Announced for Fraser Health members seeking EDMP support
New app offers members a more streamlined way to initiate EDMP support
Starting Feb. 2, members working for Fraser Health will have the opportunity to experience a new, secure way to access the employer’s Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP) when an injury or illness requires time away from work.
The EDMP is a negotiated benefit included in the Nurses’ Bargaining Association (NBA) collective agreement, designed to support a nurse’s recovery and a safe, timely return to work following both workplace and non-workplace injury or illness.
This new pilot project reflects a shared commitment by BCNU and Fraser Health to deliver the best possible care, support, and communication during what can be an overwhelming and vulnerable time for members. The system uses Prime Health, a secure absence and disability management platform designed in Canada specifically for large, complex health care organizations. It was chosen because it supports members with clarity, transparency, and choice throughout the process—while keeping personal information protected.
This system is designed to help members:
- connect with Fraser Health’s disability management team faster,
- clearly understand what’s happening with their case and what comes next,
- spend less time repeating information or tracking down updates, and
- safely share information.
Members will have more improved access to their own information and case status, with increased autonomy and personal agency. BCNU staff supporting members will also have real-time access to information, helping to streamline the process.
How the system works
The system is accessible via a secure app that is shared to a member at the time their case is initiated. While strongly encouraged, members do not have to use this app to receive support from the Employer or BCNU EDMP representatives.
BCNU EDMP representatives participated directly in the design and development of this system to ensure it reflects nurses’ real experiences, priorities, and concerns—especially around privacy, trust, and psychological safety. BCNU will continue to be actively involved in this pilot project to ensure this approach remains aligned with members’ needs and values.
